- Perform a wide variety of laboratory procedures requiring independent judgment using both manual and automated methods in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and other disciplines as introduced into the laboratory.
- Be able to work independently and perform standard routine, complex, automated, and manual lab techniques without direct supervision.
- Ensures proper functioning of lab equipment by performing preventative and corrective maintenance and troubleshooting and basic instrument malfunctions; calibrates and assesses the accuracy of lab equipment.
- Performs, evaluates, and records quality control measures and institutes corrective action as appropriate; assists in maintaining inventory and supplies.
- Performs phlebotomy using age-specific techniques; collects prepares and determines acceptability of specimens.
- Prioritizes assignment of test results and coordinates general workflow; recognizes normal, abnormal, or unexpected results, errors, and problems with patient test results; evaluates, interprets, and reports test results.
- Observes principles of data security/patient confidentiality; assists in the training new assistants and technologists.
- Must be able to perform and report tests and provide on-site supervision of testing processes as a daily function.
QUALIFICATION:
- Baccalaureate degree from an approved Medical Technologist program. The non-traditional route may be accepted by State after a review of education and experience as stated in CLIA (42 CFR 493.1489)
- Successful completion of the National Registry Exam for Medical Technologists such as ASCP, AMT, and AAB.
- Minimum of 3 years hospital experience as an MLS in a high complexity testing (required for the General Supervisors License) based on NV Department of Health and HumanServices (DPBH.
